Environmental Credentials

Border Hardwood is PEFC and FSC certified, showing commitment to our environmental values. They also help promote sustainable forest management, and responsible timber harvesting worldwide. We are committed to maintaining these certifications and providing our customers with quality, responsibly sourced Oak.

PEFC, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, is the world’s leading forest certification organisation and the certification system of choice for small forest owners. Their logo and labels are globally trusted trademarks of quality goods, from forests that are sustainably managed.

With two-thirds of the world’s certified forest being managed in compliance with PEFC’s Sustainability Benchmark, PEFC offers the widest supply of certified timber globally. This, in turn, provides companies like ourselves with choice and availability of high-quality Oak, that is sourced responsibly. They currently represent over 260 million hectares of forest and their certification is a standard of choice for public timber procurement policies countries such as the UK.

The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an NGO that seeks to improve forest management worldwide.  They are dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management while encouraging forest owners and managers to follow best social and environmental practices for the good of people and the planet.  Their certification informs consumers that the forest products they purchase are from a more sustainable source. Our FSC certification thus, in turn, informs our customers that our Oak has been harvested responsibly by our suppliers. Border Hardwood attained FSC certification in 2016, to show that we comply with the highest social and environmental standards on the market. Our certifications are also a recognition of our responsible purchasing practices within the industry.

Most of our Oak is brought from France due to the commitment of commercial farming of their crops, making it both ecological and economically sustainable.

If you would like to discuss our certification or commitment to responsible forestry further, then please call our head office to speak to one of our dedicated sales team. They will be able to inform you or answer any further questions you may have.
