Structural Oak Beams
Perfect for use in construction, wood is one of the best building materials you can use in terms of environmental impact and lasts for hundreds of years.
Here at Border Hardwood, we import 6,000-10,000 cubic feet per week of freshly sawn oak beams to our site in Shropshire; this is then sawn and kiln dried in-house for our customers. We hold around 15-20,000 cu ft of stock at our site in Wem Shropshire that can be delivered anywhere in the UK. The majority is structural oak beams, a quality, and traditional building material, ideal for use in construction. Wood is one of the best building materials you can use in terms of environmental impact, character, and quality. Cared for properly it will last for hundreds of years, standing the test of time for your home. Border Hardwoods oak beams are best used in oak framed extensions, framed garages, swimming pools, fireplace beams, surrounds, and extensions.
At Border Hardwood we grade all of our oak in-house to the British Standard and have done since we opened. There are a number of grades; they are QPA, QP1, and QP2. We are able to provide a grading guide for any further information you need or just call the office. Our standard grade is a QPA/1, for any other information on our grading please have a look at our grading page which explains the British grading standard. As sustainability is important to us here at Border Hardwood, we ensure that all of our oak beams were grown and harvested sustainably; all of the timber we import is either PEFC™ or FSC® certified. Being a responsible merchant in this way ensures that there will be a supply of oak for future generations and the sustainability of the industry. Air Dried Oak Beams
Here at Border Hardwood, we supply air dried beams to the public and the construction industry. We currently hold 5,000 cu/ft of air dried beams in stock for our customers and import around 800 cu/ft per week. All of these air-dried beam’s, are dried in house with heat from our onsite kiln that is fueled with waste from the site; they are typically air-dried between 2-5 years.
All of our stock tends to be in square sections and are sold in multiples of 1m lengths. So 2,3,4,5 and 6m lengths are standard for all of our air dried oak beams.
The grade of our air dried oak beams is to the BS 5756, grades being THA D40, THB D30, TH1 D30 and TH2, thus giving you peace of mind that the oak and oak beams you are using are strong enough for the intended task. All of our air dried oak beams are available for delivery throughout the UK. Green Oak Beams
Here at Border Hardwood we supply a range of oak products and a range of oak beams. One of our most popular products is green oak beams, which we can supply in a range of grades and sizes. These range from 20″ x 20″ cross-section and up to 40′ in length (although in exceptional circumstances we have produced larger!). Green oak beams can be the perfect addition to any project and add character to your property.
Due to the close relationships we have with our mills, we have negotiated contracts to cut orders to size for our customers. This means that we don’t have to pass on wastage costs to our customers and allows us to remain competitive, whilst providing timber of the highest quality. It is also important for us here at Border Hardwood Ltd to minimize our wastage so that we can use our timber in the most conscious and efficient way possible; also for any waste that produces that this is then reused as firewood to heat our onsite kiln. This ensures that we can operate in a cost-effective and sustainable way of looking beyond certifications for our timber and pushing our mission statement into all aspects of the business.
We are also licensed by TRADA (Timber Research And Development Association) to stress grade oak to BS 5756, grades being THA D40, THB D30, TH1 D30 and TH2, thus giving you peace of mind that the oak and oak beams you are using are strong enough for the intended task. All of our green oak beams are available for delivery throughout the UK. If you have any further questions feel free to email us on email@example.com or give us a call on: 01939 235 550.
