Strength Classes

Visual strength grading is a slower process than machine grading. The visual grader, however, can be more flexible and is invaluable where a relatively small parcel of timber needs grading. In the event of a dispute, a visual grader may be able to confirm the strength grade of timber already and in-situ.

Solid timber strength classes are defined in BS EN 338 Structural Timber. A strength class is a variety of species/strength grade combinations that have similar values.

• BS EN 338 includes six strength classes for Hardwoods, D30 - D70

European Oak

European Oak is an ideal timber with many uses. Its easy to work with, durable, cost effective, renewably sourced, traditional and adds value and presence to almost any product. Our family has been selling Oak for almost 100years. This is why we specialize in European Oak. We offer any European Oak products from standing trees to the finish products. Through and Through/Square edged

We import both Log sawn/waney edged logs and square edged production. If a specific project requires an even colour and grain then we can supply Air dried, kiln dried or fresh sawn logs. Usually these are through and through sawn logs. We also buy standing trees and mill them in France. These logs/packs are transported to our yard in Wem in Shropshire and are air dried here before they are put in the kiln. The majority of our Oak is French. We can source English or Welsh if specified. We insure that the grade is correct by travelling to France every 6 weeks to view the logs/ packs for call off. If it be Prime, character, pippy, brown, or rustic we can select the grade for you.
