Timber Merchants

We are a long established, family business providing the timber requirements to the joinery and building trade.

The present Managing Director’s great grandfather’s men hauling logs to the sawmill during the first world war. Both wars put huge demands on oak and the Jones family were instrumental in fulfilling that demand and have been keeping up that tradition as reliable suppliers of hardwoods ever since.

With four generations of timber merchants and a wealth of accumulated knowledge to draw on, timber is in our blood.

Recognising its importance to the worlds’ ecology and to our future the majority of our timber is from renewable sources. The ranges of timbers we supply are tropical, American and European timbers e.g. Sapele, Iroko and Mahogany. We also stock English/European Oak that is our specialist timber.

Strength Grades

The strength of a piece of timber depends on it species and can be affected by growth characteristics like knots, wane slope of grain and splits. The visual grading specifies the size, type and number of defects allowed for each grade. BS 5756 specifies four visual strength grades for temperate hardwoods.

General Structural Temperate Hardwood TH1 & TH2
For timber with a minimum thickness of 20mm and a minimum cross-sectional area of 2000mm2
Heavy Structural Temperate Hardwood THA & THB
For timber with thickness equal to or more than 100mm & a cross sectional area equal to or more than 20,000mm2

We can fulfil ANY need in hardwood timber. Should you have any questions or require a quick and prompt quotation, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
