Border Hardwood has one of if not the largest stock of European Oak in the country. This allows us to air dry/season much of our stock.
Primarily our kilns are used as conditioning kilns for beams. We currently have over 2000m3 of seasoned oak beam in stock.
When we mill the logs we allow 1 year per 25mm of thickness. This will get the moisture content down to 20-28%. Our biomass fired kilns are ideal for reducing the moisture content down to 10-14% and making the stock more suitable for internal use.
For our oak mantel market we store the beams in the kiln for 4 weeks prior to machining. This reduces the moisture from around 28-30% to 25%.
